Cold and Warm Season Veggies

The first step in planting a garden is determining what you want to grow. Different plants grow in different seasons and certain plants are suited to different climates. For the sake of simplicity we will break down veggies into cold and warm season crops.

Cold Season Vegetables:

  • Beets
  • Broccoli
  • Brussel Sprouts
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Cauliflower
  • Celery
  • Kale
  • Leeks
  • Lettuce
  • Onions
  • Potatoes

Warm Season Vegetables:

  • Corn
  • Cucumber
  • Eggplant
  • Melons
  • Okra
  • Peppers
  • Squash
  • Watermelon

All plants take time to grow, therefore there will inevitably be overlap between cold and warm season plants. Having an understanding of which plants are more suited to cold compared to those that are more suited to warm will help ensure you don’t kill your plants immediately after planting.
